• What it is: A clear, semi-permanent or permanent coating that's made of silicon dioxide (SiO2) and other additives. It's applied by hand and cures to form a hard layer over the car's paint. 
• What it does: Protects against paint damage from contaminants like tree sap, bird droppings, bug guts, dirt, mud, and grime. It also repels water, so it's especially useful on the windshield. 
• How it works: Bonds with the car's paint to create a hydrophobic layer that prevents dirt and grime from sticking to the surface. It also blocks UV rays from reaching the clear coat, which can help prevent oxidation and corrosion. 
• How it compares to wax or sealant: Ceramic coating is more durable than wax or sealant and can last up to a year or two. 
•  How long does ceramic coating last on a car?  For the most part, ceramic coatings last between two and five years. In some cases, they can last up to a decade, but this is pretty rare. However, there are many factors that affect their lifespan and might force you to replace yours sooner than you'd expect.
