Clay bar detailing is a car detailing technique that removes contaminants from a car's paint using a soft, malleable clay compound

• What it does: Removes particles like brake dust, road grit, and industrial pollution from a car's paint
• Why it's important: Prepares a car's paint for waxing or polishing, and prevents future damage like paint swirls and premature aging
•  Does clay bar remove scratches?  Clay bars don't remove scratches or scuffs in ANY instance. Clay bars are designed to remove brake dust, rail dust, industrial fallout, and contaminants embedded into the paint.
• Does a clay bar remove clear coat?  A clay bar is an engineered, clay-like product that pulls contaminants like water spots, brake dust, metal dust, industrial pollution and road grit from your clear coat.
• Does a clay bar remove tar?  Clay was invented to remove paint overspray, but it's proven very effective at removing tree sap, tar, and bugs.
• How often should I clay bar my car? Clay barring should be done periodically, typically every six months to a year, depending on the level of contaminants on the surface of your car. If you notice that your car's paint feels rough or gritty to the touch, it may be time to clay bar.
